“Priority for traffic from the opposite direction”

Meaning (important information):

This sign is placed 10 - 20 meters before the narrowed road section where two vehicles cannot circulate next to each other and obliges the driver of the vehicle travelling in the direction of the red arrow to give priority to the vehicles coming from the opposite direction, on the narrowed road section that follows. It is preceded by one of the signs that warn that a narrowed road section follows: “Road narrowed on both sides”, “Road narrowed on the right side” or “Road narrowed on the left side”.

Under the sign “Priority for traffic from the opposite direction” an additional panel “Categories of motor vehicles that must respect the meaning of the sign” may be installed, which specifies the categories of motor vehicles that have the obligation to respect the meaning of the sign. The categories of motor vehicles not mentioned on that additional panel do not have the obligation to respect the meaning of the sign.

Placement (additional information):

At 10 m - 20 m before the road section with the width of the carriageway less than 5.50 m, to oblige the driver of the vehicle travelling in the direction of the red arrow to give priority to those coming from the opposite direction, on the narrowed road section that follows.

It is preceded by one of the signs: “Road narrowed on both sides”, “Road narrowed on the right side” or “Road narrowed on the left side”.

In the situation where, due to the width of the narrowed carriageway, the circulation of certain categories of vehicles is not possible, under the sign the additional panel “Categories of motor vehicles that must respect the meaning of the sign” is installed, on which the silhouettes of the vehicles that must give priority to the vehicles travelling from the opposite direction are shown.

At the other end of the narrowed road section the paired sign “Priority over traffic from the opposite direction” is installed.

Stopping, waiting, U-turn and moving in reverse maneuvers are prohibited on the narrowed road section. The overtaking maneuver is not prohibited on the narrowed road section, but due to the narrowing of the road there is enough lateral space only for overtaking bicycles, electric scooters, mopeds or motorcycles without sidecar.
