Chapter VIII - Preventive conduct in the urban environment, rural environment, in tunnels, on bridges and under bridges
Preventive conduct in the urban environment
The risk factors that influence the behavior of the motor vehicle in motion are:
the large number of intersections and their diversity;
the congestion;
the large number of signs and road markings;
the pedestrians;
the insufficiency of parking spaces;
the accumulated fatigue.
Preventive conduct measures in the urban environment:
to adapt the travel speed depending on visibility, road and traffic conditions;
to avoid as much as possible the rush hours of traffic;
to increase attention, the roads are very crowded and to anticipate possible maneuvers of pedestrians or of the other traffic participants, thus avoiding unforeseen events;
due to the large number of maneuvers (stops, U-turns, lane positioning) fatigue and states of nervousness set in. Try as much as possible to keep your calm and focus on the road.
Preventive conduct in the rural environment
The risk factors that influence the behavior of the motor vehicle in motion are:
the condition of the roads;
the lack of signs and road markings;
the lack of sidewalks;
the presence of animals on the carriageway.
Preventive conduct measures in the rural environment:
to adapt the travel speed depending on road and traffic conditions;
to increase attention, in some villages sidewalks are missing and people use the carriageway, some intersections are not signalled by signs or by road markings or you may encounter herds or unsupervised animals.
Preventive conduct in tunnels, on bridges and under bridges
The risk factors that influence the behavior of the motor vehicle in motion are:
narrow spaces;
the vision adapts more slowly.
Preventive conduct measures in tunnels, on bridges and under bridges:
to increase attention because the vision adapts more slowly after passing from natural light to artificial light;
to adapt the speed depending on visibility and the conditions of narrowed road. By their construction the bridges do not allow avoiding accidents by moving onto the shoulder or off the road.
the bridges are located over watercourses or over valleys, which leads to a higher frequency of the appearance of ice and black ice.
