Good news from the Directorate of Permits after the chaos created in the system!

The road test will be given 30 days after scheduling

Only at the end of October will the Directorate of Motor Vehicle Permits have enough staff to allow candidates for the driving licence to take the practical test in at most one month. Now, the waiting time is also three months between the written exam and the road test.

The lack of staff at the Directorate for Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration Regime (DRPCIV), caused by frequent retirements, will be remedied only at the end of October, chief commissioner Cristian Nechifor from within the institution told us.

We remind that “Libertatea” presented extensively this month the fact that a candidate from Bucharest, but also from other counties, ends up taking the practical test three months after passing the written test. At this moment, the Directorate benefits from only 9-11 examiner police officers, and for the training of others an interval of several months is necessary in order to cope with the job’s requirements.

“At present, the number of police officers certified to carry out the examination activity is insufficient compared to the volume of requests submitted by candidates, which determines the increase of the scheduling term for the practical test”, Nechifor acknowledges.

In a previous article, we presented the case of an 18-year-old girl who started driving school in the summer of last year, and in September finished the courses. She was scheduled to take the written exam, the theory as it is popularly called, in February. She was called to take the driving test at the beginning of May.

“For reducing the waiting time of candidates and increasing the quality of services offered to citizens, the vacant positions existing at the institution’s level were filled through competition, and in the shortest time the police officers who meet the legal conditions in this regard will be certified as examiners”, chief commissioner Cristian Nechifor also told us.

He also added that, following this approach, he expects “that by the end of October our service will be able to organize the examination activity with a staff of at least 20 examiner police officers, which will lead to the decrease of the practical scheduling term to a maximum of 30 days”.

The last candidate registered today takes the exam in 55 days

According to the data received from DRPCIV, it results that in the coming period more than 9,780 candidates are scheduled to take the practical test.

“The examination is carried out on average with a number of 9-11 police officers certified for this activity, who examine daily a number of approximately 180 candidates. The examinations are usually carried out on all working days”, as the institution’s leadership told us.

Based on this information, it results that today’s last candidate, the 9,780th, will take the road test in 55 working days. If we take into account the free days of this summer, it results that this candidate will take the practical exam for the licence around August 25.

How to obtain the driving licence

Step 1

The theoretical test can be taken by candidates who meet the legal conditions, after registration in the computer system, in the order of presenting to the exam, from Monday to Friday, between 7.00-15.00 (access to the room is allowed until 14.30), and on Tuesdays, between 7.00-19.30 (access to the room is allowed until 19.00), as DRPCIV also told us.

Step 2

The allocation of candidates to the practical test is done within the limit of available places and in the order of the request.

Step 3

After passing the theoretical test, a candidate can schedule in view of taking the practical test, within the limit of available places, anytime, but not later than one year from completing the theoretical and practical training course.

Step 4, only for those failed

Candidates declared failed at the practical test can be scheduled for taking a new test after a period of at least 15 days, provided the presentation of proof attesting the performance of at least six additional hours of practical training in a specialized driving school.
