The most dangerous drivers in traffic are at most 24 years old, drive powerful cars and believe that nothing can stand in their way when they are behind the wheel. This is what the portrait-robot made by traffic police officers and driving instructors looks like. And the statistics confirm it - more than a quarter of serious accidents are caused by young people.

The driver we must avoid is up to 25 years old and got the license immediately after coming of age. The parents gave him a car with many horsepower, not at all compatible with the dose of recklessness of the owner.

A small inattention of a driver in traffic. He looks somewhere else, does something other than paying attention ahead. This is how very many accidents occur. A text message written behind the wheel increases the risk of an accident 23 times.

“All studies show that those between 18 and 24 cause the most accidents, being accused by instructors that we do not have driving schools, but schools for getting the license”, says Titi Aur, former professional pilot, currently driving instructor.

It is a theory confirmed also by the law enforcement officers.

“Young people are guilty of causing 27% of the total serious road accidents”, says Florentin Bracea, director of the Road Directorate.

“Young people who recently obtained their driving license or have had it for some time - 5, 6, 7 years - try to show off in traffic, to go with speed, are eager to go with speed, but they do not have a correct position in the seat behind the wheel and no correct position of the hands on the wheel”, shows Sorin Badica, driving instructor.

Experts say that the main causes of accidents are the failure to adapt the speed to the driving conditions and the failure to give priority. In all these situations, drivers can save their lives if they use the seat belt correctly.

In the first 11 months of the year, in Romania almost eight thousand serious accidents occurred. The balance is dramatic - over 1,700 dead and 7,500 injured.
