Question 155 of 802

Can the driving capacity of a motor vehicle / agricultural or forestry tractor be reduced after the consumption of a relatively small quantity of alcohol?

A no, if a cup of coffee is also consumed;
B even small quantities of alcohol can reduce the driving capacity;
C no, small quantities do not harm in any way.

Explanation

The consumption of alcohol, even in small quantities, significantly affects thinking, reflexes and self-control, directly influencing the capacity to make correct decisions in traffic. Under the influence of alcohol, drivers can underestimate dangers, ignore traffic rules and assume dangerous maneuvers, such as reckless overtaking or excessive speed.

Also, alcohol can induce a state of excessive relaxation or false confidence in one's own abilities, reducing vigilance and reaction time in critical situations. This combination between risky decisions and delayed reactions considerably increases the risk of road accidents, endangering both the safety of the driver and that of the other traffic participants.

Alcohol is responsible for the following effects:

  • the level of concentration of attention decreases very much;
  • the incorrect evaluation of distances and speeds;
  • it diminishes judgment and disrupts reasoning;
  • it increases the reaction time;
  • reflexes decrease;
  • the underestimation of dangers and risks in traffic;
  • the decrease of precision.

The phases of alcohol consumption:

  • the first phase: the driver has the false impression that he can achieve more at the wheel than usual;
  • the second phase: in the driver's mental and physical state a drop occurs, he becomes confused and the movement of the motor vehicle becomes winding (in zig-zag);
  • the third phase: the driver no longer hits the controls.
At a blood alcohol concentration of:
0.3 ‰ the risk of an accident begins;
0.5 ‰ the risk of an accident is multiplied 2 times;
0.8 ‰ the risk of an accident is multiplied 10 times;
1.2 ‰ the risk of an accident is multiplied 35 times;

A bottle of beer 500 ml/4%-5% 0.15-0.20 %
A glass of wine 200ml /10% -12% 0.20-0.25 %
A glass of plum brandy 200ml/25% 0.40-0.50 %
A glass of brandy 200ml/50% 1 %

The correct answer is: A
