Question 286 of 533

How must the driver of a truck proceed if a medical treatment has been prescribed to him?

A to make sure that its administration will not affect his ability to drive;
B not to administer his medicines before getting behind the wheel;
C to find out what the minimum dose is that can be administered during the time he is behind the wheel.

Explanation

For answer  A

The driver of a motor vehicle, agricultural or forestry tractor or tram to whom a medical treatment has been prescribed must make sure that its administration will not affect his ability to drive.

It must be known that it is prohibited for them to drive under the influence of some psychoactive substances. Psychoactive substances can have a series of effects on a person's behaviour, including impairing judgement, reflexes and coordination, thus they can negatively affect driving performance, influencing visual function, perception and reaction speed. Driving under the influence of psychoactive substances increases the risk of a traffic accident.

The main groups of medicines contraindicated to drivers include the following:

  • tranquillisers: those medicines that cause drowsiness, reduce the ability to concentrate and diminish physical and mental efficiency;
  • antidepressants: those medicines that sometimes cause irritability, diminish the capacity for effort and concentration;
  • sedatives: those medicines that cause drowsiness and reduce muscle coordination due to weakness occurring in them;
  • analgesics: those medicines that produce psychomotor agitation or states of euphoria.

For answer  B

When administering a medical treatment, the activity of driving a motor vehicle, agricultural or forestry tractor or tram must not be taken into account, as long as these medicines do not influence the driving ability.

However, if the medical treatment affects the ability to drive, he is prohibited from driving these vehicles.

For answer  C

The information must be made regarding establishing the maximum dose that can be administered without compromising the ability to drive, not about establishing the minimum dose.

The correct answer is: A
