The drivers of the vehicles moving from the opposite direction do not have the obligation to reduce the speed or to facilitate in any way the overtaking maneuver that you are performing. Therefore, even if the driver of the vehicle that is moving from the opposite direction has good intentions and tries to facilitate the maneuver, you cannot rely only on that. You must respect the legal provisions regarding the overtaking maneuver (see the explanation of answer B for more details).
The overtaking maneuver is prohibited when another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction, and its driver is obliged to perform maneuvers to avoid the collision. These situations occur when for the overtaking maneuver it is necessary to enter the opposite direction of travel. If on your direction of travel there is enough space so that for performing the maneuver you do not enter the opposite direction of travel, the vehicle from the opposite direction is not obliged to perform maneuvers to avoid the collision, and the overtaking maneuver is allowed.
When another motor vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction, even if the driver of the overtaken vehicle has noticed the maneuver and reduces the speed or brakes to allow the one who is overtaking to return safely to the initial direction of travel, this does not make the overtaking maneuver allowed and compliant. Therefore, overtaking is prohibited in such a situation.
