Explanation

The left turn in the case of the vehicles which enter an intersection circulating on the same road, in alignment (in a straight line) and from opposite directions, is carried out to the left of the centre of the intersection, without their trajectories intersecting. This manoeuvre allows each vehicle to turn safely, avoiding any conflict point in the middle of the intersection and ensuring a smooth traffic flow.

And in the situations in which there are special lanes for the left turn, as in the image of this question, the change of direction is made to the left of the imaginary centre of the intersection, without the trajectories of the vehicles intersecting, and if there is a guiding marking which indicates the trajectory to be followed, it must be respected. The practice of bypassing the imaginary centre of the intersection on the right, so that the vehicles turn one behind the other and intersect their trajectories, is incorrect and may create additional risks of collision and confusion among the road users.
