Question 469 of 485

How must you proceed when entering, during the daytime, a tunnel that is improperly illuminated?

A you honk;
B you turn on the dipped-beam headlights;
C you turn on the intermittent warning light.

Explanation

For answer  A

Regardless of whether the tunnel is or is not properly illuminated, upon entering it you DO NOT need to honk. This is not prohibited, but neither does it help in this case. The sound warning means are used to avoid an immediate danger.

For answer  B

When you enter a tunnel you are obliged to turn on the dipped-beam headlights, regardless of whether it is or is not properly illuminated and regardless of whether you are driving during the daytime or at night.

Although the road traffic legislation has been updated and at this moment it is mandatory that when driving during the daytime on all categories of public road you drive having in operation the dipped-beam headlights (low beam) or the daytime running lights (DRL), the answer to this question remains still correct and in compliance with the legislation.

To understand this rule better we give the following example: A driver of a motor vehicle drives during the daytime in normal conditions, in which case he has the obligation to operate either the dipped-beam headlights (that is the low beam), or the daytime running lights (DRL), as he considers, or he may even use them both at the same time. But if he is driving through a tunnel, the option of choosing to operate the daytime running lights (DRL) instead of the dipped-beam headlights (low beam) NO longer applies because the road traffic legislation provides that in this case it is mandatory to use the dipped-beam headlights (low beam), without leaving the option of using the daytime running lights (DRL) instead of the dipped-beam headlights.

You can find more information about the obligation to drive also during the daytime with the dipped-beam headlights or with the daytime running lights in operation here - Obligation to use the dipped-beam headlights (low beam) or the DRL lights during the daytime.

For answer  C

Regardless of whether the tunnel is or is not properly illuminated, it is NOT necessary to turn on the intermittent warning light, more precisely the hazard warning lights. When it comes to driving through tunnels, the hazard warning lights will be used in the situation in which you remain broken down in these, with the obligation to stop the operation of the engine and to install the reflective triangles.

The correct answer is: B
