Question 175 of 485

The injured person with external bleeding must be positioned:

A in such a way that the bleeding wound is lower than the plane of the body;
B it does not matter whether the wound is situated higher or lower than the plane of the body;
C in such a way that the bleeding wound is higher than the level of the body.

Explanation

The injured person with external bleeding must be positioned in such a way that the bleeding wound is higher than the level of the body, so that the arterial pressure in the area of the bleeding decreases.

Bleeding is the abundant outflow of blood, internal or external, following the rupture or cutting of the wall of a blood vessel. This is caused by the damage of the vessel's integrity, produced by trauma, the purulent lysis of the vascular wall, or the disturbance of blood chemistry.

Bleeding is of two types:

  • External bleeding. In which blood flows outside the body due to the sectioning of blood vessels.
  • Internal bleeding. In which the flowing blood remains inside the body (e.g.: in the abdominal cavity).

Depending on the amount of blood lost, we can distinguish:

  • Large bleeding, fatal, when more than half of the total amount of blood is lost;
  • Medium bleeding, when 1/3 of the total amount of blood is lost;
  • Small bleeding, when an amount of 500-600 ml of blood is lost.

The correct answer is: C
