Stopping is NOT mandatory when approaching an intersection or at the signal of the leader of the column of pedestrians, stopping is mandatory at the signals of the members of the school traffic patrols, at the pedestrian crossings near educational institutions.

Art. 89.
(1) Stopping of participants in traffic is mandatory also at the signals given by:
     a) border police officers;
     b) traffic instructors of the Ministry of Defence;
     c) railway agents, at level crossings;
     d) authorized personnel in the area of works on public roads;
     e) members of the school traffic patrols, at the pedestrian crossings near educational institutions;
     f) blind persons, by raising the white cane, when they are crossing the street.
(2) The persons provided in paragraph (1) letters a) – d) may also perform the following signals:
     a) swinging the arm in the vertical plane, with the palm of the hand oriented towards the ground or with a means of signalling, which means reducing the speed;
     b) the brisk rotation of the arm, which means increasing the travelling speed of vehicles, including hastening the crossing of the road by pedestrians;
 
Art. 90. – The persons provided in art. 88 paragraph (1) and art. 89 paragraph (1) letters a)- e), who direct the traffic must be equipped and placed so that they can be easily observed and recognized by the participants in traffic.
