The driver of a vehicle that moves behind another has the obligation to keep a sufficient distance from it, for avoiding the collision. This obligation must always be respected.
In the situation in which you are in a traffic light-controlled intersection and you stop suddenly because the green signal changes to yellow, and the driver of another vehicle, who is driving very close, hits you from behind, the one who was wrong is the driver of the vehicle behind, because he did not keep a sufficient distance for avoiding the collision, in the situation in which the one in front reduces the speed or brakes suddenly.
The failure to keep this distance, if through this an accident has occurred from which resulted the damaging of a vehicle or other material damages, is sanctioned with the contravention fine provided in the second class of sanctions and with the application of 3 penalty points.
