Explanation

In the case in which for the person involved in a traffic accident a fracture of the vertebral spine is suspected, mobilizing (moving) the victim will be avoided until the medical team arrives. If there is a potential danger (danger of burning, asphyxiation, etc.) and the victim must be mobilized, this will be done with immobilization of the vertebral spine. The victim will be laid on a hard surface (door, board, stretcher) and fixed with ties passed over the thighs, pelvis and chest.

Attention! Mobilizing the victim will be done only in an emergency.

You can suspect that a person presents an injury of the vertebral spine if:

  • there are signs of cranial trauma;
  • during the trauma a special force was exerted on the back or neck;
  • the victim complains of an intense pain of the neck or back;
  • the victim accuses weakness, numbness, paralysis or lack of control of the limbs, urinary bladder or stool;
  • the neck or back of the victim are twisted or have an abnormal position;
  • the person is in an unconscious state and cannot describe the pain.

The correct answer is: C
