GENERAL Learning Environment Category B (B, B1)
Question 317 of 1208

Which categories of vehicles have the obligation to use dipped-beam headlights during the daytime?

A the motor vehicles that tow other vehicles or that transport dangerous goods;
B only the motor vehicles that move with high speed;
C only the motor vehicles for public transport of persons.

Explanation

The use of dipped-beam headlights during the daytime is mandatory for:

  • the motor vehicles that accompany military convoys or processions or transport organized groups of persons;
  • the motor vehicles that tow other vehicles or that transport goods or dangerous products;
  • the vehicles that move through tunnels;
  • the drivers of motorcycles and mopeds, throughout their movement on public roads;
  • the motor vehicles and the agricultural or forestry tractors that move on all categories of public roads. In this case, instead of the dipped-beam headlights the lights for daytime running (DRL) may be used.

Although the traffic legislation has been updated and at this moment it is mandatory that when moving during the daytime, on all categories of public roads, the movement is made having in operation the dipped-beam headlights (low beam) or the lights for daytime running (DRL), the answer to this question remains still correct and in accordance with the legislation.

To better understand this rule we give the following example: A driver of a motor vehicle travels during the daytime, in normal conditions, in which case the driver is obliged to activate either the dipped-beam headlights (that is the low beam), or the lights for daytime running (DRL), as the driver considers, or may even use them both at the same time. However, if the driver tows other vehicles, including trailers, or if the driver transports goods or dangerous products, the option to choose to activate the lights for daytime running (DRL) instead of the dipped-beam headlights (low beam) IS NOT valid anymore because the traffic legislation provides that in this case it is mandatory to use the dipped-beam headlights (low beam), without giving the option to use the lights for daytime running (DRL) instead of the dipped-beam headlights.

More information about the obligation to travel also during the daytime with the dipped-beam headlights or with the lights for daytime running in operation can be found here - Obligation to use dipped-beam headlights (low beam) or DRL lights during the day.

The correct answer is: A
