GENERAL Learning Environment Category B (B, B1)
Question 291 of 1208

Specify whether the holder of a category B driving licence has permission to drive a car with a trailer:

A yes, provided that he has held the licence for at least 3 years;
B yes, if the mass of the trailer does not exceed 750 kg;
C no, because such a trailer requires a category BE driving licence.

Explanation

The holder of a category B driving licence has the right to drive a car with a trailer in the following situations:

  • the trailer must have a maximum authorised total mass (MTMA) of up to 750 kg: thus the category B licence is sufficient, without other additional conditions;
  • if the trailer has an MTMA over 750 kg: driving the combination is permitted provided that the combined MTMA of the combination (motor vehicle + trailer) does not exceed 3,500 kg. And if the combination has a combined MTMA between 3,501 and 4,250 kg it is necessary to complete an additional training course within a driving school, called “Code 96.”.

The correct answer is: B
