GENERAL Learning Environment Category B (B, B1)
Question 233 of 1208

The incorrect use, at night, of the high‑beam lights when meeting another motor vehicle moving from the opposite direction, is sanctioned with:

A the suspension of the exercise of the right to drive motor vehicles, if this contravention was committed repeatedly;
B the cancellation of the driving licence;
C fine and penalty points.

Explanation

For answer  A

The exercise of the right to drive motor vehicles can be suspended, for a period of 30 days, in the case in which at least 15 penalty points are accumulated. In order to accumulate at least 15 penalty points it is necessary to be sanctioned 8 times for this contravention. But in answer A neither the suspension period nor the number of repetitions of this sanction is specified. Therefore answer A cannot be correct.

For answer  B

The cancellation of the driving licence does not apply for this contravention.

For answer  C

When you drive at night, when approaching another vehicle that moves from the opposite direction (comes from the opposite direction toward the vehicle you are driving), you are obliged that from the distance of at least 200 meters you use the low‑beam lights, simultaneously with the reduction of speed.

If at that moment you are moving with the high‑beam lights functioning, you must change them to the low‑beam lights, in order not to disturb those in front, simultaneously with the reduction of the travel speed.

The non‑observance of this obligation, moving with the high‑beam lights, is sanctioned with contravention fine provided in class I of sanctions and with the application of two penalty points.

The correct answer is: C
