Explanation

The consumption of alcohol, even in small quantities, profoundly affects the capacity of thinking, the reflexes and the self-control, reducing the ability to make correct decisions in traffic. Under the influence of alcohol, the drivers of vehicles can underestimate the dangers, ignore the traffic rules and perform risky maneuvers, such as unsafe overtaking or driving with excessive speed. Also, alcohol can generate an excessive relaxation or a false confidence in one’s own abilities, diminishing vigilance and prolonging the reaction time in critical situations. The combination between hazardous decisions and delayed reactions significantly increases the risk of accidents, endangering both the driver and the other participants in traffic.

The effects of alcohol on the driver of the vehicle:

  1. decrease of the level of concentration: The attention of the driver of the vehicle is diminished, which affects the observation of the traffic and the reaction to unexpected events;
  2. wrong assessment of distances and speeds: The driver of the vehicle can erroneously perceive the position of the other vehicles or their speed of movement;
  3. disturbance of reasoning: The decisions of the driver of the vehicle become irrational and dangerous;
  4. increase of the reaction time: The decisions are delayed, which can lead to accidents;
  5. decrease of reflexes and precision: The fine motor skills of the driver of the vehicle are affected, which makes the maneuvering of the vehicle difficult;
  6. underestimation of risks: The dangers in traffic are ignored or treated superficially.

The phases of alcohol consumption:

  • the first phase: the driver of the vehicle has a false impression of confidence and believes that he can control the vehicle better than usual;
  • the second phase: confusion appears, and the maneuvering of the vehicle becomes unstable, with movement in zigzag;
  • the third phase: the driver of the vehicle completely loses the capacity to control the vehicle.

The relationship between blood alcohol level and the risk of accidents:

At an alcohol concentration in blood of:
(‰ (per thousand) or in other words 0.3 grams of pure alcohol per liter of blood)
0.3 ‰ (per thousand) - the risk of producing an accident already appears;
0.5 ‰ (per thousand) - the risk of accident doubles;
0.8 ‰ (per thousand) - the risk of accident increases 10 times;
1.2 ‰ (per thousand) - the risk of accident is 35 times higher;

Examples of consumption and blood alcohol levels:
A bottle of beer 500 ml / 4% - 5% alcoholic concentration 0.15 - 0.20 %
A glass of wine 200ml / 10% - 12% alcoholic concentration 0.20 - 0.25 %
A glass of țuică 200ml / 25% alcoholic concentration 0.40 - 0.50 %
A glass of cognac 200ml / 50% alcoholic concentration 1 %

The correct answer is: A
