GENERAL Learning Environment Category B (B, B1)
Question 590 of 1208

You are driving a motor vehicle / agricultural or forestry tractor, with a trailer, on a road with a single lane for each direction and you are approaching a very tight left curve, without visibility. How must you adapt your driving?

A reduce the speed before the curve, due to the increased danger of the trailer skidding;
B reduce the speed, drive in the middle of the lane and accelerate slightly when you reach the apex of the curve;
C maintain the speed, and brake in the curve.

Explanation

For answer  A

You are obliged to drive at a speed that does not exceed 30 km/h in the urban area or 50 km/h outside the urban area, in particularly dangerous curves signalled as such or in which visibility is less than 50 meters. And if the car you are driving has a trailer attached you will reduce the speed in time (before the curve), because the danger of the trailer skidding is very high. Driving through a curve is done with reduced and constant speed, and only after exiting the curve, when visibility is good, you may accelerate.

For answer  B

When you reach the apex of the curve, meaning in the middle of it, it is NOT the right moment to accelerate. The right moment to accelerate is right after exiting the curve, when you also have the best visibility.

For answer  C

It is not recommended to brake inside the curve, braking is done before the curve. If you brake inside the curve, the trailer will have the tendency to move straight ahead and the phenomenon of the trailer oversteering appears.

The correct answer is: A
