Question 837 of 1208

To give first aid in case of fractures, the following maneuvers are performed:

A the bone fragments that have perforated the skin are pushed in;
B the fracture site is fixed, to prevent the movement of the bone fragments during the immobilization of the limb, in splints that must be long enough to include the joint above and the one below the fracture site;
C the fracture is immobilized with sterile bandages.

Explanation

For answer  A

The bone fragments protruding from the wound must not be reinserted inside it, because this maneuver can cause additional injuries or may favor the occurrence of infections.

For answer  B

In the case of an injured person with fractures, the fracture site is fixed, to prevent the movement of the bone fragments during immobilization and transport. The fixing is performed with the help of splints long enough to include the joints above and below the fracture. Under the splint, a soft bandage of gauze or cotton is applied to prevent injury to the soft tissues.

For answer  C

Sterile bandages are not suitable for immobilizing fractures. If splints are not available, the fixing (immobilization) can be done with scarves or cloth triangles.

The correct answer is: B
